MAS-UC Memo November 19th 2007 MAS-UC

Students Empowered in the frist MAS-UC workshop

Students at the University of Cincinnati gathered for the first MAS-UC quarterlypublic_speaking_mas_uc.jpg workshop, this past Sunday, November 18. Students from different colleges and departments in the University participated. The guest speaker for quarter's workshop was Dr.Hazem Said, department head of the Information Technology department at the University of Cincinnati.

In the three hour workshop, the attendees were engaged in extensive discussions to learn the purpose and skills of public speaking. Dr.Said focused on attaining the public speaking skills needed for the community activists, which would help maximize their effect on the audience.
The program included case studies that were deeply discussed. These case studies included examples of pioneers and experts in public speaking such as the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Included were videos of famous speeches such as those of Martin Luther King Jr., First Lady Barbara Bush, and Late President Ronald Reagan. Segments of these effective speeches were viewed and critiqued by the audience. Also, the audience had the chance to practice in front of their fellow colleagues, where they tried to present the public speaking skills they attained prior to the workshop. MAS-UC
One participant commented that this workshop was "the most useful and important activity they he attended after two years of activism on the University of Cincinnati campus". Another participant commented by saying "it was amazingly incredible." Another participant was actually bothered that the MAS-UC workshops' frequency was only quarterly, and was hoping that the frequency will be increased. MAS-UC
The objective of these workshops are to build young professionals who are able to lead their communities and excel as students and as professionals. This objective is also part of MAS-UC's mission: "to build a community of leaders who strive to perpetuate good and forbid wrong doings, introduce Islam, and excel as students, professionals, and friends while becoming an integral part of the community"
