National Udhiya Meat Drive 2007
The Muslim American Society is proud to present
THE 3RD ANNUAL NATIONAL UDHIYA MEAT DRIVE CAMPAIGN
Allah, The Creator, says, “And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive. (Saying) We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks.” (Qur’an 76:8,9).
Additionally, He says, “Their flesh and their blood reach not Allah, but the devotion from you reaches Him. Thus have We made them subject unto you that ye may magnify Allah that He hath guided you. And give good tidings (O Muhammad) to the good.” (Qur’an 22:37)
The Muslim American Society Service Corps (MSC) is conducting its 3rd National Udhiya Meat Drive.
The project will be done on behalf of Muslims who designate their ‘Eid donation or “Udhiya/Qurbani” to the needy of our community, regardless of their faith.
Beef cattle, lamb, and goat will be slaughtered on December 20 & 21, 2007 according to Islamic tradition, and then the meat will be processed at a halal certified meat packaging plant. The meat will then be wrapped and frozen, and is scheduled to be received by participating MAS chapters and Islamic centers across the country on January 12th. It will be immediately distributed to the established food banks and other designated locations nationwide for deserving Americans of all creeds.
The cost for a single cow is estimated at approximately $1,050, which is then broken down into seven shares of $150 each, and $150 for the lamb or the goat. Donors may purchase the entire animal or designate one or more shares of beef for distribution.
