MAS SERVICE CORPS ANNOUNCES SUCCESS OF 3RD ANNUAL NATIONAL UDHIYA MEAT DRIVE PDF Print E-mail

Distribution Begins January 11, 2008

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (MASNET) Jan. 10, 2008 - The Muslim American Society Service Corps (MSC), is concluding its 3rd Annual National Meat Drive, an event timed to coincide with the ritual sacrifices of Eid ul-Adha. The annual project is conducted on behalf of Muslims who designate their Eid donation or "Udhiya/Qurbani" to the community's needy, regardless of faith or ethnicity.

Udhiya 2007 meat donations are scheduled to be delivered to participating MAS chapters and Islamic Centers beginning January 11, 2008.  "The meat will be distributed to designated food banks, shelters, soup kitchens and local families," stated, MAS Service Corps campaign manager, Vicki Habhab.

Participants the meat drive campaign included 23 MAS chapters and numerous Islamic Centers and Mosques from across the nation.

This year's event showed a 70% increase in participation from the community and a 150% increase in donations, culminating in 345 Udhiyah purchases for a total of 16,000 meat for distribution.

Defining the goals of charitable giving, the Prophet Mohammed (May the Blessings of The Creator be upon Him), said that we are all responsible for our neighbors: "He is not a believer who lets himself be satiated while his neighbor goes hungry."

A universally compassionate faith, Islam teaches mankind that there is no distinction between a hungry Muslim and a hungry non-Muslim. A person who is suffering here in America is just as deserving as someone who is in distress elsewhere.
